Why do we need the Innovation Campus?
Protecting the world's food supply has been a priority at K-State for nearly a decade. The Innovation Campus will attract people from around the world who are interested in protecting the world's food supply.
Johnson County is a key player in the Animal Health Corridor. The Innovation Campus will connect the expertise of hundreds of K-State scientists with others in the region who are working in animal health and nutrition. As more companies invest in the Animal Health Corridor, they will look to the Innovation Campus for workers who are educated in the biosciences.
What courses and programs will the Innovation Campus offer?
The academic focus of the Innovation Campus is in animal health and food safety and security, and other relevant areas. The campus will offer graduate education, both master's and doctorate level, as well as certificates, credit courses and professional development in these areas.
How does the Innovation Campus fit in with other university campuses in the Kansas City area?
The Innovation Campus is part of the Johnson County Education and Research Triangle, a cooperative effort with the University of Kansas involving KU's Edwards Campus and a KU Cancer Center project. The Innovation Campus also will partner with other area colleges and community colleges, as well as the Olathe School District.
What sets the Innovation Campus apart is K-State's reputation as a national leader in animal health and food safety. More than 150 K-Staters are active in the food safety and animal health arenas. The Innovation Campus expects just one building to generate 60 new jobs and $3.6 million in new annual payroll in Johnson County. With the proximity to the Kansas Bioscience Park, the campus is designed to foster start-up businesses.
Where is the Innovation Campus located?
The K-State Innovation Campus is located in a park-like setting on 38 acres in Johnson County, near Kansas Highway 7 and College Boulevard.
The campus is next to the Kansas Bioscience Park, putting K-State in an ideal position to share technological discoveries and foster start-up businesses. The proximity of the campus to Olathe's Prairie Trail Junior High School gives young people a look at real-life science, technological discoveries and commercialization.
